 Without Sight or Sense
« Thread Started on Sept 21, 2009, 9:09am »

"Quix... was this really a smart idea?" The question came from a chestnut mare, light in shade and close to the much shorter equine. Her ears never focused on the burro though as they moved about, scanning the area.
"Nia, calm down. Nothing bad is going to happen! I wouldn't let anything happen to you, you know that." The gelding burro shot back to her, trying to calm her down. She wasn't buying it, but that could be expected as it was her first time off the ranch. She knew as a blind mare she wouldn't last long without Don Quixote, but she feared more for the small donkey then she let on.
"Fine... but what time of day is it?" She now pestered him, catching his aid and stepping carefully over a branch.
"Night time." He said it easily, trying to make her calm down so she would stop panicking. If she knew they had been gone past sunrise she would flip.
"Liar."
"Damn." So much for that idea, she was surprisingly cool at this point actually.
"I can feel the sun on me." She explained to him, pausing and sniffing the air.
"So why ask, Jyonia?" He asked her, looking at her as she sniffed. He also did a senses check, his large ears and eyes surveying the surroundings. He would probably take her back by tonight, assuming they didn't run into any complications. When she hadn't answered him for a long while he looked back at her. She stood there, eyes half closed, ears swiveling slowly, hooves apart. She often stood like that for minutes at a time, hours if she didn't get hungry. It was how she saw the world, so he left her build her own picture before she asked him softly the question she always had.
"What do you see?" Her voice was always so soft, polite, and innocent when she asked it that Don Quixote took special care to paint a picture as perfectly as he could for a mare that had never seen.

"Hello." It was a palomino speaking, though since the mare was blind she couldn't see that. "My name is Midnight."

He couldn't help but give a smug smirk, as he noticed the palomino stallion with the pretty chestnut mare. He tossed his head and sighed loudly, before aproaching slowly, the mare was blind. He slowed to a stop and smiled at the small horse next to the mare.
"Hello, sir, ma'am. I am Justin Time, Im sorry if Im interupting anything.., Im just lookin' for some company."
He said sincerely. Although he seemed smug and arogant, he only acted that way when he wanted to be a pain. But truthfully he was very serious and sweet. He put his head down in respect for them and calmly stood, looking at the palomino and bowing the same to him.
"Oh, please, call me Justin."

Jyonia flickered her ears, it seemed Don Quixote would not be able to tell her all the things he could see. The burro himself was unhappy with the new company, not liking the two stallions. A short donkey and a blind mare would not be able to run near fast enough. The mare pinned her ears on the stallions, listening to them and judging their size. Obviously she could tell that they were stallions, scent gave that away, and vibrations gave her an estimate on size. She would learn more as she stood though, so she didn't move.
"My name is-"
"Don't tell them. It is none of their business and they didn't ask for our names." Jyonia was taken back by Don Quixote's severity and hostility, but after a moment blinked her blue eyes and accepted it. They hadn't asked for her name after all, she figured.

Large brute cantered in slowly. He saw a mare and stopped a respectful distance away. "Hello m'lady. My name is Night. May I know your name?" he asked her softly, bowing deeply to her. He waited for a response as he nibbled at shoots of grass.

Jyonia turned and ear to next arrival and shifted her weight, bumping Don Quixote. He was not happy with the third stallion and snorted.
"He asked for my name, can I tell him?" She asked her friend, who shook his big ears and snorted again. Jyonia laughed at him.
"Fine, you can. But only if you want to, you don't have to be all nice and polite to a total stranger." The burro said flatly, refusing to give his name. Jyonia snickered and let her ears roam on her still head. She twitched her coat to rid herself of a fly.
"I was named Jyonia. And this is-"
"None of your damn business." The donkey snorted, cutting her off and glaring at the stallions.

The brute chuckled at teh burro, then looked up to the mare. "What a beautiful name Jyonia." he said softly. "It fits you well." he commented with a kind smile. "Would you like to come live with me?" he asked.

The mare blinked her blank eyes, surprised by such a question. She had planned on returning to her home on the ranch, and she had assumed Don Quixote had the same thing in mind. The donkey snorted and flapped his ears back, stomping his little hoof as he glared at the stallion.
“She isn’t going anywhere but home with me!” He snapped, standing next to Jyonia in a defensive manner. She nuzzled the burro’s shoulder, not speaking as she raised her head somewhat.
“Sorry, but I don’t know you, and I am sure I am missed back home.” She politely declined his offer, though she felt extremely awkward with the sudden question from a complete stranger. She could tell Don wanted to leave right then and there, start heading home, and she wouldn’t have minded returning. What would a stallion want with a blind mare anyway, to always be cared for, she didn’t want that. She had a place back home.
